Sylvie Zimmer
Sylvie Zimmer was born in Luxembourg and lives and works in Surrey. She graduated as a mature student, with a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree from Central Saint Martins, London, in 2003. Her studies established a research-led approach to painting that continues to underpin her practice.
Sylvie’s work is informed by a particular interest in history and botany, migration and objects associated with travel and trade. Working primarily with fluid acrylic and mixed media on canvas, board, and paper, she develops her paintings through drawing and layered mark-making, allowing imagery to emerge through process and material exploration. Sylvie has taken part in group exhibitions internationally.
